Exclusive: Victor Osimhen Yet to Receive Approval for South Africa Match

In an exclusive update, Super Eagles' media officer, Babafemi Raji, has dismissed rumors of Victor Osimhen's clearance to play against South Africa on Wednesday, February 7. Speculation arose when Osimhen, grappling with abdominal discomfort, didn't accompany the team from Abidjan to Bouaké on Monday night, raising doubts about his fitness for the crucial 2023 AFCON semi-final against Bafana Bafana.

Despite Coach Jose Peseiro acknowledging the potential for Osimhen's involvement during a press conference, he stressed that the final decision rests on the player's health. Peseiro stated, "Until this afternoon, I cannot answer right because it is about health."

Misleading media reports suggested Osimhen's medical clearance, but Raji clarified that he was only allowed to fly from Abidjan to Bouaké. Awaiting further assessments upon his arrival in Bouaké, Osimhen's eligibility for the match against South Africa remains uncertain.
